Kinesio Taping

What is it?

Kinesio Taping

Developed by Dr. Kenzo Kase nearly 30 years ago in Japan, Kinesio Taping has become the gold standard for therapeutic rehabilitative taping.

Kinesio Taping involves taping over and around muscles in order to assist, give support or to prevent over-contraction, stimulate weak area's and improve lymph flow whilst maintaining full range of motion (ROM) enabling the individual to participate in physical activity with functional assistance.

Kinesio Tape is often used in conjunction with other therapies, including cryotherapy, hydrotherapy, massage, physiotherapy and electrical stimulation.  It's effects can last anywhere from 3-5 days.

  • Improve contraction of a weakened muscle
  • Reduce muscle fatigue and spasm
  • Reduce over-stretching and over-contraction of muscles
  • Re-educate muscles through sensory feedback
  • Lessen edema (swelling) through aiding the lymphatic system
  • Minimize post-traumatic or post-surgical bruising through improved circulation
  • Help mobilize scar tissue by enhancing glide between tissue layers
  • Help correct joint mechanics through aiding muscle function around the joint
  • Relieve pain by activating the natural analgesic system in our skin receptors
